Causes of RMS
Bacterial Infections:
- Vibrio parahaemolyticus: This bacterium is often implicated in RMS outbreaks. It can cause systemic infections, leading to rapid mortality.
- Other Vibrio species, such as Vibrio harveyi and Vibrio alginolyticus, can also contribute to RMS.
Poor Water Quality:
- High levels of ammonia, nitrite, and hydrogen sulfide can stress the shrimp and make them more susceptible to infections.
- Low dissolved oxygen levels can further exacerbate the situation.
Nutritional Deficiencies:
- Inadequate nutrition can weaken the shrimp’s immune system, making them more vulnerable to diseases.
Environmental Stress:
- Sudden changes in water temperature, salinity, or pH can stress the shrimp and trigger disease outbreaks.
